Purge baffles for pipes and tubes developed by Walter Schnorrer
These baffles are designed for use in pipes and tubes to contain and distribute the purge gas in the region of the weld root. In welding high alloy steels the environment in the root of the weld typically needs to contain less than 50 ppm of oxygen in order to prevent oxidation. The purge baffles can used alone or in conjunction with an oxygen analyzer to ensure a good welding environment on the back side of the weld.

Double Ended Purge Baffles

Principle of Operation
The baffles comprise a pair of seals separated by a rigid or flexible rod. Each seal has three flexible lips to ensure a tight seal to the tube wall. Integrated into one of the sealing lips is a disc shaped gas diffuser which produces a laminar flow of the purge gas into the space between the seals. The air in the space between the seals is displaced by the purge gas and flows out of ventilation holes on the other seal.

Single ended purge baffles

Tubes up to 43 mm diameter can be purged with an open end provided the seam is within a tube diameter of the baffle. The single ended units have a single triple or double seal baffle with a gas diffuser
	Quick connecter has a hose nipple on one side and snap fitting for the purge dam feed tube on the other side.

Flange Purger kits

The SC Flange Purger consists of an aluminum cone connected to single ended tube purge baffle. The unit incorporates a gas diffuser producing a laminar flow of gas during purging and welding. The gas flow rate can be estimated to be 10% of the ID of the tube in mm. Typical purging times using the Flange Purger are less than 1.5 minutes.

Ordering Information for the Flange Purger

The Flange purger is made up of two elements the cone and the baffle seal. An individual cone will cover a larger range of tube sizes than any single baffle seal so to specifiy your flange purger choose a cone and a baffle from the tables below. Each cone is provided with a kit of connectors to connect the sealers to the cone. These have lengths of 40, 60, 100 and 150 mm ( 1.5 to 6 inches )
