Schmidt + Haensch Saccharimeter
Sugar Polarimeter

The Saccharomat is a fully automatic sugar polarimeter with quartz wedge compensation and complying with the ICUMSA recommendations. The Saccharomat use the quartz wedge principle which directly compares the rotation of the sugar sample to that of the quartz. Unlike a circle type polarimeter a wedge type is not sensitive to small changes in the wavelength .This makes the instrument very accurate and eliminates the need for checking and re-calibration with a quartz plate. The Saccharimeter guaranties measurements without calibration during the lifetime of the instrument. The instrument was developed especially for the analysis of raw, intermediate and final products of sugar beet and cane processing.

The Saccharomat works with a quartz wedge, sliding in the optical light path. Polariser and analyser are fixed at an angle of 90°. The instrument measures the path of the quartz wedge, compensating the rotation of the sample. Instead of the angular encoder of a circle polarimeter, the Saccharomat works with a linear encoding system. Since the quartz and the sample have an almost identical reaction to slight changes of the wavelength, these have no impact on the results.
