The Scie-Plas UV sterilisation cabinet has been designed to efficiently decontaminate reagents and equipment prior to carring out PCR reactions. The powerful UV lamps denature nucleic acids in 5 to 10 minutes making them unsuitable for amplification. The UV lamps are timer controlled so that the UV exposure can can be minimized. Safety interlocks on the cabinet doors protect the user from accidental exposure to UV light. The 10 mm thick optical acrylic material also acts as an efficient shield of beta radioactive emissions and can therefore be safely used with isotopes such as 32P. A white light provides the user with good visibility when working with the cabinet.
