The Wahl heat spy is designed for non contact high temperature measurement in industrial environments. This rugged instrument incorporates a precision telescopic sight with parallax compensation so that the operator can see exactly where the measurements are being taken.

Note the following when using the heat spy to measure the temperature
You can take a reading from any opaque surface of most materials. You can measure the temperature of thick transparent plastic materials (>0.20" thick). There is a built in emissivity adjustment for measuring metals. The instructions include an emissivity table for common metals oxides and alloys. Note that you cannot take infra red measurements through glass because the glass absorbs the infra red energy. You can make measurements of opaque objects through thin (<20 mil ) films of polyethylene and polypropylene.
