 The Scie-Plas wet blotters (
electro-blotters ) enjoy a well deserved reputation for accuracy efficiency
and speed of western, southern and northern blot transfers. Speed efficiency and accuracy are provided by the densely coiled platinum wire electrodes in
theuser replaceable electrode cassettes, which provide a very uniform electric field. These electrodes are positioned with the minimum distance between them so that as much of the current as possible passes through the gel-membrane sandwiches during blotting. There are two sizes suitable for blotting up to four gels of either 10 x 10 cm, 10 x 20 cm or 20 x 20 cm. The blotters have a water cooled base and a stirring bar can be placed under the compression cassettes to assist in temperature control. Up to four compression cassettes can be locked together to minimize gel movement during their insertion into the tank. An open square grid design for the cassettes provides a maximum area for transfer and is strong enough to maintain a firm contact between gel and transfer membrane. If only small gels are being blotted then an optional dummy buffer saver block can be used. |
