Microsiemens (uS) (same as
micromhos) is the unit for measuring conductivity and is used to approximate
the total dissolved solids content of water. Water with 100mg/L of NaCl has a
conductance of 212 uS/cm
Cell Constant The resistance of
a solution between the electrodes of a conductivity cell is a function not only
of the conductance of the solution but also the volume of conducting solution
between the electrodes. The volume is the distance between the electrodes ( l )
x the electrode area (A). The ratio l/A is called the Cell Constant. The most
commonly used cells have a Cell Constant of 1 but other cells are available
with different cell constants as shown in the table below. |
